It rained and rained this morning, and when we made our way into town, we passed a pair of Germans staring intently at a tree. ‘A sloth!’ they said and indeed there was a sloth, a metre from our noses. A very wet sloth, climbing up a tree, moving very very slowly but constantly with its strange, alien body configuration. I think ET must have been modelled after a sloth. And all very slowly of course, so it was hard not to giggle.
Later, on my return, I turned another corner and looked up to see a family of howler monkeys with their extremely long tails, playing in the treetops and leaping from one tree to the next. They howled, it sounded like a moan.
